Dr. Powell has a large service for cleft cranio-facial patients, including bone grafting reconstruction and distraction of hypoplastic maxilla and mandible. She continues to follow these patients and assess the outcomes of surgeries.

Dr. Powell collaborates with Pediatric Rheumatology in complex management of temporo-mandibular joint disease (TMJ). There are ongoing studies assessing the long-term outcomes of mandibular distraction osteogenesis in neonates.

She was awarded the UAB FY21 Top Performing Providers Award.
